Population growth in southern Nevada has accelerated during the second half of the 20th Century, and between 1990 and 2000 the population increased by 85.2%. The growth has continued into the 21st century which has fueled a construction boom. An economy based on tourism, the latest US Census bureau reports the median income for a household in the city was $53,000 and the median income for a family was $58,465. Currently, the median home value in the city is $207,800. The average rental is a little under a thousand dollars with one bedrooms averaging $781 a month and the cost of a 3 bedroom, 2 bath rental property is over $1200. The city has rebounded from the 2008 crisis with home values going up 9.3% over the past year and are expected to rise 5.6% within the next year.

There is no shortage of jaw-dropping attraction in town, starting with the famous Las Vegas Boulevard, better known as the Strip. One of the richest streets in the world, it has a vast array of world-class casinos. However, even if you are not interested in gambling, there are several that are not to be missed. Built to be the world’s most perfect hotel, Bellagio does not fail to impress. It is also known for an impressive private botanical garden and conservatory. Built as a tribute to one of the world’s greatest cities, the Venetian is a replica of the great Italian city with its own canals and gondolas. And if you want to get a truly unique perspective of the city, take a ride on High Roller Ferris wheel. The High Roller is located at the Caesar’s Casino and is the tallest Ferris wheel in the world and offers spectacular views of the city.

While the city is known for hosting the worlds’ top pop performers, don’t think that it doesn’t value high culture. You’ll find that many of the resorts like the Bellagio have impressive art collections. Moreover, the city has many special interest museum from the very impressive natural history museum to the popular Mob Museum. The city also has an excellent children’s museum. The city is home to the Smith Center for the Performing Arts located at Symphony Park which hosts performing art event. The city also boast an impressive downtown art district with its own film festival. The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) on the southeast side of the city also has many performing art events.

Southern Nevada is not only home to casinos and Elvis impersonators but also to some of the unique and pristine wilderness in the country. In all directions surrounding the city you will find extensive recreation areas for the public. Just east of the city you will find the Grand Canyon Parashant National Park. While it is easy a rather long trip to either the north or south rim of the canyon, the park is popular destination for camping and hiking. But the Grand Canyon is not the only canyon of note. The Red Rock Canyon is a conversation area just a few miles west of Las Vegas that is popular for rocking climbing, mountain biking and hiking. A one-way loop road, and it side roads provides access to many of the features in the area. And for those who don’t want to leave the city for an outdoor adventure, the city offers over fifty world-class golf courses to choose from.

While the Strip is known for bringing the best entertainment in the world to its casinos, it isn’t the only place to have a drink and enjoy some music. As the strip became ever more upscale, downtown started to slowly deteriorated. The area along Fremont Street known as Glitter Gulch was renovated starting with the millennium was renovated and is the trendiest part of town with some of the hottest clubs and restaurants in town. Of course the area around Paradise Road next to the university is popular with students and a major gathering spot whenever the UNLV Runnin Rebels have games.

As you might imagine, there is no shortage of high-end shopping in the city. Caesars, the Forum Shops at Bellagio, and Wynn Las Vegas are all known for luxury shopping. The city is always remaking itself with the latest attempt being the City Center on the strip. A one-stop destination that covers over 67 acres with high-end shopping, resorts, spas, restaurants and art galleries. If your shopping orientation is more kitsch, then you have to stop at the Bonanza, the largest gift shop in the world. If you’re looking for that great bargain or just like to have an eclectic window shopping experience explore the many pawn shops that surround the Strip.
